Welcome to Year 4! Our teachers are Miss Kay and Mrs Hunter.

Below, you will find some information that we hope you will find helpful. Let’s make 2025-26 a great year!

PE

· Over the year, Y4 will be having swimming lessons on Wednesday mornings. 4GK will be going swimming in the Autumn term and 4KH will be swimming in the Spring term.

· Year 4 will have PE with Mr Wardle on alternate Tuesdays. A reminder will be sent each week as to whose class will have PE that week.

· Children should wear appropriate PE bottoms (such as dark, plain joggers, shorts or sports leggings) and trainers on PE days. Earrings must be removed.

Homework

· Children will all have a reading book at the appropriate level. Children are expected to read 4 times a week at home and bring in their signed reading record every day.

· Children are also expected to complete 20 minutes of Times Tables Rockstars a week.

· Every Friday, children will be given a new list of 10 spellings to learn. They will be tested each week. It is important that they practice these words on EdShed at home.

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

In the Summer term, all Year 4 pupils in England must complete a multiplication tables check. This is to determine whether children can recall their times tables fluently. It is therefore essential that children practice their tables at home on a weekly basis alongside the sessions we do in school.

For more information, please use the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/multiplication-tables-check-information-for-parents/multiplication-tables-check-information-for-parents-text-version--2

Reminders

· Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day. This is to be filled with water only. No juice or flavoured water. Children can also bring in a healthy snack (e.g. a yoghurt or piece of fruit) to have at break time.

· Children do not need to bring any stationary as this is all provided at school.

· For the safety of our children, they should not wear jewellery other than a single pair of stud earrings to school.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via Class Charts.

Useful websites

4NS have started their new computing unit all about creating their own websites. This week we looked at using a software called Microsoft Sway. We came up with an idea for the website and wrote a title and inserted a background image.

In Year 4, we have been exploring the importance of promises and commitments and how these are valued across different religions. Through stories, discussions, and activities, the children have discovered how keeping promises can help build trust, kindness, and strong communities.

Year 4 have been busy developing their woodworking skills as part of our DT project to create slingshot cars! Using saws safely and carefully, we have started constructing the car bodies from materials including lolly sticks, dowels and wheels. The children have shown fantastic concentration and resilience while measuring, cutting and assembling their designs. We are now beginning to add creative design features and can't wait to see the finished slingshot cars in action!

Year 4 had a fantastic day at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle! We explored a range of interactive exhibits, took part in hands-on activities and discovered how science can help us understand the world around us.
We were able to visit to the Planetarium, where we learned about constellations, planets and other suns beyond our solar system, and a fascinating fossils workshop, where we discovered how scientists use evidence to learn about dinosaurs and life millions of years ago.
The children represented our school brilliantly, showing curiosity, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the day. We returned to school inspired by everything we had learned!
Well done, Year 4!
