Year 6 London Visit 2014 |
On Monday 24th November most of our Year 6 children went to London. Josie, Ellie, Summer and Brogan from Year 6 had a great time...
Day 1
We arrived at school at 7.10am which was incredibly early! The bus left at 7.30 and because there was lots of traffic, we didn't arrive until 3pm.
On the way into the city, the bus took us on a tour of the main sights. We saw Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament, whilst also passing Whitehall and Downing Street. We drove along the edge of the River Thames and even crossed Tower Bridge, seeing The London Tower on the way past.
When we got off the bus, we went for a walk around. We noticed an nderground Station where street dancers were performing for a gathered crowd. We arrived at the Rainforest Café at 5pm where we sat at huge tables. Inside the café, it was made to look like an actual rainforest. Models of animals were everywhere including an elephant which ears moved and eyes blinked. There were also frogs and parrots near where we sat.
Every 10 minutes or so, a tropical thunderstorm began. The lights in the restaurant dimmed and mist gave the impression of it raining. Real water even fell down from the ceiling and a waterfall cascaded down.
After we finished our meal, the bus took us to the hotel where we settled in and unpacked. It was exciting to have our own room with a card key. We watched TV whilst we ate our sweets and snacks which we had brought from home.
Day 2
Breakfast was served at 8am.We ate cereal, croissants, toast and fruit. After that, the bus took us to the Imperial War Museum. We saw aeroplanes and other memorabilia which were actually used during World War 1 and World War 2.
Part of the museum, allowed us to understand what it would have been like to fight in the trenches. Soldiers would have experienced terrible times whilst in similar situations. It really made you think!
We also visited the Cabinet War Museum. We were given phone-like machines to walk around the museum and type numbers into them. They played information and sound clips. There were 33 rooms full of waxworks of people. It was made to look the same as it would have during the war. The actual room where war making decisions were made at the time was the most interesting.
For dinner, we ate at Pizza Express. It was delicious! You could choose either Margarita or American pizzas.
That evening, we went to the theatre to see War Horse. The theatre was very grand with lots of stairs! Our seats were excellent: not far from the stage but not too close! The show took your breath away because it was so realistic. Parts of the show were extremely sad and lots us cried, especially Mrs Maddock.
Day 3
After getting dressed and eating breakfast, the bus took us back into the centre of London to meet the Chelsea Pensioners. They are people who have fought during the war. They wore scarlet uniforms and looked extremely smart. Michael Allen, one of the Chelsea Pensioners, made us laugh by telling us made-up stories about his medals and why he had received them! We later found out the truth about how brave he had been.
After that, the bus took us to the London Eye. We split into 2 groups and stepped into separate pods. We could see each other through the glass as we went round. Unfortunately it was a misty day which stopped us from seeing right across London. We could still see the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames and the Shard.
Before returning home on the bus, we visited a gift shop where we bought souvenirs. The bus took a long time to get home but we still had Burger King to cheer us up at the service station on the way.
